Wandering around Target today, I had my ‘I really don’t need any of this’ cap on when I stumbled upon a PS3 Slim peeking through the glass shelf at the electronics section. It’s out already? More importantly, there was only one left! I had read reviews for it earlier in the week but didn’t realize it already hit the retailers. Anyways, I was purchasing a birthday gift at the register, when I overheard someone asking for assistance to open the glass case for it. She said “Oh can you please open this for me, I’m gonna buy it, I’ve been looking all over for it and it’s sold out everywhere i’ve checked.” That was surprising because for a console that’s three years old, all it takes is a cosmetic change and it’s now a hot commodity once again. Nintendo did it with the nintendo DS lite, why wouldn’t it work for Sony? Actually, Sony has already done it with their PSP 3000 and is going to do it again with the PSP-GO. What drives people to continue to purchase refreshed product? Is it marketing, hype? I guess its true, we are a country of consumers- consuming everything past our financial capabilities regardless of the economic condition. Which leads to the ultimate question, PS3-SLIM or money in your bank?
